Mapping the Multidimensional Picture of Acute Responses to Traumatic Stress
نویسنده
چکیده
Recent years have seen a growing interest in the immediate responses evoked by traumatic stressors. This renewed interest has several sources, not the least of which is the desire to prevent the occurrence of prolonged stress disorders among survivors. Accordingly, the mapping of the early responses to traumatic events has recently focused on the challenge of identifying risk factors for developing prolonged stress disorders, and in particular post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD; for review see Brewin et al. 2000). Early therapeutic interventions have equally been evaluated, and sanctioned, by their preventive longterm effects (Wessely et al. 2000).

Epidemiologic Study of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among Traffic Accident Victims in Tehran
Background and Objectives: Road accidents are a major public health problem and one of the leading causes of death in the world. Some survivors of traffic accidents experience acute stress disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder during weeks to months following the accident. These disorders can have disastrous effects on victims and their inability to return to normal living conditions. ...

Background: Overwhelming life experiences can trigger stress disorders including acute stress disorder (ASD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The objective of this study was to investigate the frequency of and predictive factors for ASD and PTSD in snakebite victims. Methods: In this study, snakebite victims who were admitted to Mashhad Medical Toxicology Centre, Imam Reza Hospital, I...
متن کاملTransient inactivation of the central amygdala modulates metabolic and hormonal responses to acute stress in female rats
Introduction: Current study examined the possible role of the central nucleus of amygdala (CeA) transient inactivation on the metabolic and hormonal disturbances induced by acute electro foot shock stress in female rats. Considering the differences between female and male in responses to stress, this study attempts to reveal possible mechanisms underlying these differences. Methods: Uni- or bil...
متن کاملDysfunctional cognitive appraisal and psychophysiological reactivity in acute stress disorder.
The present study investigated the extent of dysfunctional appraisal as measured with the Posttraumatic Cognitions Inventory (PTCI) and physiological responses to trauma-related material in patients with acute stress disorder (ASD; N=44) in comparison to participants without trauma exposure (N=27). Heart-rate (HR), skin conductance responses (SCR), and viewing time were recorded in response to ...
متن کاملCellular and Molecular Mechanisms Involved in Neuroinflammation after Acute Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury
Introduction: Spinal cord injury (SCI) following traumatic events is associated with the limited therapeutic options and sever complications, which can be partly due to inflammatory response. Therefore, this study aims to explore the role of inflammation in spinal cord injury. The findings showed that the pathological conditions of nervous system lead to activation of microglia, astrocyte, neut...
